I spent some time in Mount Pleasant today, and it is easy to see why people are so attached to this neighbourhood. Main Street is full of independent shops, restaurants, music, art and older buildings that give the area a character of its own. Mount Pleasant is also under a lot of pressure.
Sunset is a neighbourhood with a lively and diverse population, from varied backgrounds, but also a neighbourhood with an increasing number of seniors. I'm happy to see the new Sunset Seniors Centre welcoming seniors with activities, food programs, and community gatherings.
Today I attended the Orange Shirt Day gathering at Grandview Park for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Yesterday I attended the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival at Slocan Park, and it was a great way to spend an evening in Renfrew-Collingwood. The artists and performers were incredibly talented, with live music, dance, handmade lanterns and artwork throughout the festival.
I stopped by Canucks Fan Fest before Vancouver took on the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Arena. I had the chance to meet some of the Canucks Game Entertainment team and get a photo together before the game.
Today I had the chance to attend Hogan’s Alley Resurgence at People’s Park, hosted by the Hogan’s Alley Society. It was a great afternoon. The artists and performers were incredibly talented, and there was a real mix of music, art, food, local vendors and people from across the community.
This evening, I attended the On Unceded Territory opening reception at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre.
I spent some time in South Granville today, and this neighbourhood is clearly at a turning point. The Broadway Subway and new development around the corridor will change how South Granville looks and functions.
