On Unceded Territory at Roundhouse

This evening, I attended the On Unceded Territory opening reception at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre.

I would like to thank the Host Nations, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), as well as the Roundhouse for welcoming me to the reception.

The exhibition features work by Indigenous artists Chrystal Sparrow, T’uy’t’tanat-Cease Wyss, and Mark George, connected through the Indigenous Artist Residency at the Stanley Park Fieldhouse. It was a strong exhibition with a wide range of work, and I was glad to be there for the opening.

As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, it is important that Vancouver continues to follow through on the commitments it has already made.

If elected to City Council, I will support the City in carrying out its UNDRIP Action Plan and in maintaining meaningful working relationships with the Host Nations and Vancouver’s urban Indigenous communities.
